Children North East are the providers
of the Sure Start Children's Centre Western Tynedale.
The Children's Centre in Western Tynedale, part of the Northumberland
Children's Centre programme, operates from premises in Haltwhistle
and serves a large rural area in that most westerly part of
the county.
Children's Centres are the latest stage
of the governments 'Sure Start' initiative and the Children's
Centre in Western Tynedale builds on the work of Children
North East through the mini rural Sure Start in that area.
The Children's Centre Programme is based
on the concept that providing integrated education, care,
family support and health services are key factors in determining
good outcomes for children and their mothers, fathers and
carers. The service will work to achieve good outcomes
for children in line with the Every Child Matters outcomes
framework of all children:

Sure Start Children's Centre Western Tynedale
provides a 'core offer' in line with the Sure Start Units
national and local targets. This includes:

Years Provision

Support and parental outreach
• Child
and family health services, including antenatal services
• Parental
involvement
• Links
with Jobcentre Plus
• Local
advice and information for parents
• Support
for childminders
In providing the core offer Children's
Centres will build on existing provision and good practice,
rather that start afresh. Sure Start Children's Centre
Western Tynedale aims to work in partnership with local
people and organisations to ensure an integrated, coherent
approach to service planning and delivery across the area.

families with young children already benefit from good quality
services and we intend to build on that in order to enhance
services and extend the benefits of services to more families.
