Gateshead
Supporting Children has been operating since December 2002
and works within primary schools in Gateshead with children
aged 4 - 11.
Doing
well at school in as important factor for the healthy development
of children and young people. However, for a variety
of reasons, school may not be the positive learning experience
it should be for some children. This can lead to low
self-esteem and lack of confidence which can inhibit learning.
Social and emotional problems will also impact on a child's
ability to do well at school.
Gateshead
Supporting Children provides early intervention in the form
of activities which help develop social, emotional and educational
skills, build resilience and promote constructive communication
between families and schools which enhance the child's life
chances.
Activities
include nurture group work, circle time, sibling groups, classroom
support, groups aimed specifically at raising boys' achievement,
anti-bullying, out of school activities, educational outings
and peer massage in schools programme. The project also
organises one-off events such as museum visits to promote
family learning.
