Gateshead
Supporting Children began in December 2002 after a period
of groundwork and research which had been undertaken during
2001/2002. The focus of the project is to help children in
Gateshead Borough to achieve their potential by reducing the
risk of social exclusion.
Gateshead Supporting
Children - has been operating
since December 2002. It works within schools and families
to build up nurturing relationships within families and productive
ones within school. It provides activities to develop social,
emotional and education skills and provides a method of constructive
communication between families and schools, which enhances
the child’s life chances.
Activities within GSC are Dinner time clubs,
circle time, creative play, after school clubs, outings, family
work, play therapy, home school liaison, parenting strategies,
advocacy, parenting groups, self-esteem work, anti-bullying,
classroom support.
Gateshead Supporting
Children is well known in the Gateshead area and is working
at present in 4 schools. The two elements of the project directly
support over 300 children aged 4 - 14 and 20+ adults.
